Ghanaian Kente Cloth
Kente Cloth is an important part of Ghanaian culture.
Kente cloth is given as  gifts at Weddings, Births, and
other ceremonies.

When painting your Kente
cloth keep in mind what
different colors symbolize in
Africa.

Red- Life and Blood
Blue- Innocence
Green- Mother earth-
Mother Africa
Black- People and Unity
Gold- Strength and Fortune
I painted my Kente cloth on a
paper towel, so it would
actually feel like cloth.  I looked
online to find inspiration for
geometric shapes.
One of the most popular festivals is Odwira, the presentation of the new harvest of yams to their ancestors. The week long festival in the fall
follows strict guidelines each year. One rule prohibits the consumption of new yams until the festival has ended. On the fourth day before the start
of the festival, a huge feast is held in honor of the living and the dead and feasts are held at the center of many towns.
In Ghana, people might
balance large amounts
of produce on their
heads when walking
long distances.

This craft is a Ghanaian
women who is carrying
a basket of Yams on her
head.

I used a special craft
stick person and fun
foam to make this craft.

Andinkra Dootles are from East
Africa, Ghana and Ivory coast. These
symbols are different than an
alphabet. These are not letters and
do not spell out words.  Each Symbol
means something different.  Some
of the symbols mean attitudes,
feelings, and historical events.  Click
on the link above to find out which
ones you connect with.

I just drew these symbols on paper with a
Black Sharpie and glued them on craft foam.
The craft ideas with these symbols are endless.
